II. FAIR PLAY & SPORTSMANSHIP
1. Respect the other coaches in the league. Let's make the OCFL a fun place to be. The #1 goal is to have fun.
2. Good sportsmanship will be a staple in the OCFL. Keep trash talk within respectable limits.
If problems arise, action will be taken against the offending coach/coaches.
3. Play within the "true" spirit of the game. What makes college football so special is the pageantry and excitement! Realism and str8 play is the key here. Running the same play over and over 20 times a game is not realistic football! Going for it on 4 and 20 in the first quarter is not realistic football! AI exploiting substitutions is not realistic football! Nickel and Dime Base Defenses is not realistic football. Be creative with your offensive and defensive sets! Match-up! Cheesy/Cheap play in any form will not be tolerated!
4. Coaches should continue to play normal football (not purposely running out the clock) until the final 2 minutes of the 4th quarter.
5. Coaches are allowed to "ice" the kicker. BUT only by taking a time out before the kicker has lined up and is in the act of lining up his field goal or PAT.
6. Utilize ALL of your play book. It makes the game more fun if a coach is not running the same 3 - 4 plays every series. This gets very old quickly and creates disputes. Remember the OCFL is about REAL FOOTBALL, so play REAL FOOTBALL and not just Video Game Football...Comprende'!
7. Use common sense and real football discernment when faced with long yardage situations. More specific Punting/FG rules covered in more detail later.
8. Running up the score is frowned upon and discouraged. If you are ahead by a comfortable margin (28+), by all means play your game but do not intentionally run up the score on another league coach. Try subbing your lesser players if possible. No team enjoys losing, but we all do lose. If you do happen to score a lot of points, do so in good taste. Try and keep scores respectable so that it doesn't make a mockery of the league. Remember: IN THE OCFL, RESPECT FOR ALL IS RULE #1!
9. DO NOT ABUSE $$$MONEY PLAYS$$$ OR ANY OTHER ASPECT OF THE GAME THAT CHEAPENS THE GAME OR EXPLOITS THE AI OF THE GAME. Those that do use and abuse these tactics will be removed from the OCFL.
10. Discretion should be used with the no huddle offense. Please do not abuse it. There is a time and place for the hurry up. If you choose to use this strategy in a given situation, ensure that your opponent has a reasonable amount of time to get back on-sides and to select the defensive player of his choice. ***More specific rules concerning the no-huddle are covered later***
11. Onside kicks are not to be used except when truly necessary within the spirit of the game of football.
12. Do not abuse the audible system.
13. Offensive shifting of players (Motion) is limited to 1 individual player movement per play. HOWEVER, if the DB runs with the motion man (Man-to-Man Coverage), the DB must be allowed to set before the ball can be snapped. Meaning, if the Defense is in man coverage, you can not snap the ball while the Motion man is still in motion. Hot routes are not considered audibles therefore there are no limits on hot routes. You can mix your motion up to try and confuse the opponent, meaning, you can motion your WR, then take him back to his original spot then maybe motion your TE or FB. This is LEGAL. HOWEVER, if a player (WR or TE) goes in motion and enters the pocket (area between the offensive tackles) the offense CANNOT snap the ball prior to the player clearing the Offensive Tackle on the side of the formation to which he is motioning. To further clarify, you may use your WRs and TEs as extra blockers on running plays as this happens in real football, but having a WR/TE/RB in motion and hiking the ball while in motion as he is between the Offensive Tackles in order to get match ups advantages with WRs being covered by LBs is ILLEGAL. Mutliple motion with the same across the formation several times just to frustrate your opponent is not legal. ***So in essence to sum it all up your motion man must clear the Tackle before you can snap the ball on any play (run or pass) that uses MOTION.***
14. Defensive Shifting - Defensive shifting of players is limited to one individual player movement per play. Defensive tackles must stay within the bounds of the defensive ends and defensive ends cannot be moved outside of their normal shifts on an individual basis. There is no limit on group shifts or audibles on defense. Punt return is also considered a defensive play and players are allowed to move one player back to block as long as it is not the defensive ends or tackles. Speed rushing the DE is completely banned and is 100% Illegal. Speed rushing the DE is taking control of the DE and bypassing, or not engaging the tackle, then running around him to get to the QB for an easy sack or pressure. Also using your OLBs or Nickel/Dime Backs where you bring them up to the line next to your DE to speed rush them to accomplish the same motive is also banned and is 100% illegal. However, Using your DEs and DTs to create your own interior stunts and twists is LEGAL.
Defensive Lineman in Coverage - You MAY NOT MOVE your defensive line off the line of scrimmage pre-snap. ALL defensive linemen MUST be in their 2, 3 or 4 point stances until the snap of the ball. AFTER the snap YOU CAN drop them into coverage (zone blitz, etc.) BUT NOT UNTIL AFTER THE SNAP.
IMPORTANT: YOU MAY NOT "STACK" defensive linemen by putting them on top of or behind one another TO EXPLOIT Offensive Line blocking AI, as Defensive shifting of players is limited to one individual player movement per play. Defensive tackles must stay within the bounds of the defensive ends and defensive ends cannot be moved outside of their normal shifts on an individual basis.
Linebackers/Defensive Backs -- AGAIN, YOU MAY ONLY MOVE THE PLAYER YOU CONTROL PRE SNAP.
15. Quitting will not be condoned nor tolerated. If an emergency should arise, where you must quit a game, you should pause the game and notify your opponent of your situation and you 2 agree on stats and a completion date. Then you should also notify your conference commissioner(s) as soon as possible. If a coach gets angry and just pulls the plug then that coach will be removed from the OCFL NO IFS, ANDS OR BUTS. To avoid confusion, please do not start any games you know you can't finish. RESCHEDULE if need be!
